John Wesley Benner died on November 26, 2022, at the age of 90.

John Wesley Benner died on November 26, 2022, at the age of 90. He was born to Roy and Marjorie (Jameson) Benner on August 17, 1932, in Hoquiam. He attended Hoquiam schools and graduated from Hoquiam High School.

After graduation, he joined the U.S. Army and served in the Korean War, where he was awarded a Bronze Star. He returned to Hoquiam and graduated from Grays Harbor College, then attended several colleges and became a math teacher in California. He worked for the U.S. Forrest Service in Oregon and Montana until he retired.

After he retired, he moved to Pahrump, Nevada and enjoyed life there with his best buddy, his dog Pablo. During his life, he enjoyed biking, hiking and river rafting, was a member of the VFW, and was a member of the fraternal order of Elks since 1957.

He moved back to Hoquiam in May of this year to be closer to his family. His parents and two brothers, Roy and Norman, preceded John in death. He is survived by his stepbrothers, Bill (Blondie) Fogo and John Fogo, his brother Roy’s sons, Roy Jr, Larry, Dale (Nancy) and Dwayne, and Norman’s son Norman Jr. (Skeeter and Nancy) as well as several great-nephews and nieces.

There will be a graveside service with military honors on Dec. 5, at 2 p.m. at Sunset Memorial Park in Hoquiam.
