Joanne L. Burmester, 78, longtime Aberdeen resident and former maid at the Nordic Inn, died Friday, Jan. 18, 2019, at Willapa Harbor Care Center in Raymond, Washington.

Joanne L. Burmester, 78, longtime Aberdeen resident and former maid at the Nordic Inn, died Friday, Jan. 18, 2019, at Willapa Harbor Care Center in Raymond, Washington.

Joanne was born on Sept. 29, 1940, in Toppenish, Washington, to Harvey R. and Cleo N. (Jensen) Lee Sr. She then lived in Wapato, Washington, until 1948 when her family moved to Hoquiam. In 1960 she moved to Cosmopolis, Washington, and lived there until 1985 when she went to Aberdeen. In 2011, she moved to Raymond to be near her daughter.

Joanne worked as a maid at the Nordic Inn from 1980 to her retirement in 1997. She had worked before that as a CNA doing in-home care from 1975-1980 and before that as a dishwasher at the Smoke Shop in downtown Aberdeen.

She was a member of the Hoquiam Eagles at one time. She enjoyed knitting and tri-cam painting.

She is survived by two sons: Randy Burmester of Hoquiam and Daniel Burmester of Tumwater; a daughter, Lorrie (Angel) Garcia of Raymond; a brother Bruce A. Jensen of Mountlake Terrace; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother, Harvey Lee Jr.

There will be a funeral service for her on Tuesday, Jan. 29, at 2 p.m. in Fern Hill Funeral Home’s Chapel. Burial to follow at Fern Hill Cemetery, Aberdeen, Washington.
