Joan M. Hyde, age 79, a longtime Hoquiam resident, died on Dec. 30, 2022, at her home in Montesano. Joan was born on Nov. 15, 1943, in Cleveland, Ohio to Joseph and Ursula Jeney. She and her family moved to Southern California where she had lived in Arcadia and Pasadena. It was there that she met her future husband, Robert A. Hyde. They were married on Feb. 20, 1971, in Arcadia, California. They made their home in West Seattle until moving to Hoquiam in 1974. Joan had worked for Crown Drug in Hoquiam for nearly 15 years, retiring in the early 2000s.

When her children were younger, she led a local Girl Scout group for her daughter, was an active PTO member and supported all of her children’s school activities. She enjoyed spending time tending to her flowers and roses. In more recent years Joan enjoyed making cards and sewing with friends, along with swimming at the YMCA with her daughter and granddaughter. She loved spending time with her family whether it be baking with her grandchildren or traveling together. They had all just recently returned from Disneyland as a Christmas trip.

Joan was a member of Our Lady of Good Help Catholic Church and later Cornerstone Community Church. She served as a faithful Sunday School worker for both. Joan thoroughly enjoyed her time with Harbor HCE (Home and Community Educators) and was a member for more than 40 years. She held many officer positions throughout the years.

Surviving relatives include her son and daughter-in-law, John and Suzy Hyde of Washougal; daughter and son-in-law, Kristy and Tracy Ford of Aberdeen; two grandchildren, John Hyde Jr. and Lainey Ford; and one sister and brother-in-law, Barbara Ann (Bob) Jorgensen of Joshua Tree, California. The extended family has three nephews, Joe Nides, Mike Conley and Gary Conley and a niece, Claire Taylor. She was preceded by Aunt Pat, Uncle Dick and Tim Nides who had been a brother-in-law.

A recitation of the rosary, funeral service and reception were held Jan. 5, 2023.

Interment at the Orondo Cemetery near Wenatchee will take place at a later date.

The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the Grays Harbor County HCE Scholarship Fund. C/O Ann Killen, 4781 Wishkah Road, Aberdeen, WA 98520.
