Jerry M. Erickson

A lifelong Hoquiam resident, Jerry M. Erickson passed away at his home Nov. 9, 2020.

Jerry was born Nov. 21, 1939, in Aberdeen to Harold and Mildred (Husby) Erickson. He graduated from Hoquiam High School in 1957, having played football and playing tuba in the band.

He lived his whole life in Hoquiam, except for two years in the Navy in San Diego. In 1958 he married Janice Hansen. They were married for 57 years, until her death in 2015. They had three boys: Michael, Kenneth and Duke.

He began his career at ITT Rayonier in 1961 as a draftsman at the Timber Division, but soon transferred to the pulp mill as a millwright. He became a millwright foreman in the ‘70s, and retired as Maintenance Supervisor, only to go to work at Grays Harbor Paper for a few years.

Jerry enjoyed hiking, fishing, sailing, and spending time with family and friends at the family cabin at Quinault.

He is perhaps best known for his volunteering, lending his time and talents to Habitat for Humanity, Driftwood Playhouse, Coastal Harvest, Polson Museum, Grays Harbor Civic Choir, Hoquiam Lions and Hoquiam Presbyterian/Saron Lutheran churches. He was also a long-time member of the Olympians Hiking Club and a supporter of the performing arts on the Harbor.

He is survived by his sister Ann Marlene Munger (Dave) of Shoreline, sons Ken (Pam) of Central Park and Duke (Veronica) of University Place, granddaughter Rebecca (Ben) Sowders of Murphreesboro, Tennessee, grandsons: Andrew of Tacoma, Daniel (Amanda) of Graham and James (Kailey) of Montesano. He is also survived by two great-grandsons, Evan and Eric Sowders of Murfreesboro.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, June 5, 2021, at the Grays Harbor Foursquare Church, 4800 Central Park Drive, Aberdeen, Washington 98520.
