Jerome Lee ‘Jerry’ Green Sr.

Jerome Lee “Jerry” Green Sr., longtime Westport resident, passed away on March 9, 2022.

Jerome Lee “Jerry” Green Sr., 83, longtime Westport resident and former commercial fisherman, passed away on March 9, 2022, at his home in Westport, Washington.

Jerry was born on Feb. 3, 1939, in Hayward, Wisconsin, the first boy born in the Hayward Indian Hospital and the eldest of seven children. He had fond memories of his time in Hayward with his siblings. He had a strong love for the outdoors and as child he and his brothers would always find time to chase and catch the neighborhood chickens and watch them fly. When he was 15, he decided to head west and hitchhiked to Westport, Washington from Hayward, Wisconsin. He went to work in the canneries and harvesting oysters and fishing on several boats.

In 1971, Jerry married the love of his life Joyce Johnson. They enjoyed working together in the commercial fishing industry and spending time in Alaska during fishing season. They built a beautiful life together, that included large family gatherings and spoiling all of the grandkids. Joyce passed away in 2007.

Jerry built and owned several boats including: Jer’s Joy, Lady Joyce and Early Dawn. He worked for Washington Crab for eight years and retired in 2007. In his retirement he worked part time down at the docks on “bird patrol” — he cruised the docks and would scare the seagulls away with firecrackers.

Jerry enjoyed hunting, fishing and clam digging, beach combing, cutting firewood, landscaping and mending gill nets. He had a real talent when it came to fishing nets. He liked classic country music, watching the Seahawks, attending rodeos, and over decorating for the holidays.

Jerry is survived by his son, Jeff (Nicole) Green of Aberdeen; stepson, Gary (Markay) Newton of Olympia; stepdaughter, Debbie (Bill) Jurasin; brothers: Ronny, Kenny, Mikey, Eddie and Bobby; a sister, Dolores; numerous grandchildren and many great-grandchildren. Jerry was preceded in death by a son Jerome L. Green Jr. in 2005, grandson Jerome Lee Green III in 2004, a stepdaughter, Sonya Bottleson in 1993 and his parents Roy and Dorothy Green.

There will be a celebration of life potluck for Jerry on Saturday, April 23, 2022, at 2 p.m. in the Ocosta Recreation Hall, 45 Ocosta 6th Street, Aberdeen, Washington. Jerry was laid to rest next to his wife, Joyce at Fern Hill Cemetery in Aberdeen.

Arrangements are entrusted to Twibell’s Fern Hill Funeral Home in Aberdeen.
