Jeffrey E. Parks (Jack)

Jeffrey Ewing Parks (Jack) passed away at Grays Harbor Community Hospital after a long illness, with his son Dennis Parks and Cheri his daughter-in-law at his bed side. Jeffrey was 96 years old.

Jeffrey Ewing Parks was born in Eureka, Kansas on Aug. 17, 1921, to Charles Columbus and Mary Margueritte (Clogston) Parks. He grew up on a farm near Eureka and graduated from Eureka High School in 1939. He enlisted in the Navy in 1939. He was a Hospital Corpsman and Chief Pharmacist Mate. On Dec. 07, 1941, he was stationed on the U.S.S. Dobbin in Pearl Harbor when the Japanese attacked. While he was at sea he was notified by Red Cross of the birth of his son Dennis Allen Parks. He remained in the Navy until the war was concluded. He left the Navy as a Chief Petty Officer.

After the war he returned to the States and attended Mortician School in Texas. He then moved to Oakland, Calif. for four years and returned to Eureka, Kan. where he worked for the Bush Ford Dealership. He married Lura Lee Bradford on Feb. 16, 1954, in the First Christian Church of Eureka, Kan. where they made their home until moving to Great Bend, Kan., then to Bartlesville, Okla. to follow Lura’s job at Phillips Petroleum. After they retired they moved to Arizona where he was the Arizona State Chairman of “Pearl Harbor Survivors Association. In 2006 they made the decision to move to Hoquiam, Wash. to be close to his son and daughter-in-law.

Jeffrey is survived by his son, Dennis Parks and daughter-in-law, Cheri living in Tokeland, Wash.; his two grandsons, Gregory Parks and Zachary Parks both living in Texas; two great-grandsons and a nephew, Tom Parks and wife, Trish living in Arizona.

Jeffrey was preceded in death by his wife Lura, by his parents Charles and Margueritte Parks, his daughter Stephanie (Parks) Ewbanks, his brother Charles Parks and sister Virginia.

Jeffrey (Jack) had a long and amazing life and will be missed by all those who knew and loved him.
