Janiel McKinney, 89, longtime resident of Grays Harbor, died at Grays Harbor Health and Rehabilitation Center, Aberdeen, Monday, Sept. 21, 2020. She was born March 28, 1931, in South Fossil Creek, Illinois, the daughter of Gus W. and Freddie T. McKinney.
She was raised in Colorado and came to Seattle during World War II. She had married twice but had no children. She would later take back her mother’s maiden name in honor of her grandparents with whom she was very close.
Janiel loved to travel and her favorite destination was Ireland. She enjoyed talking about her trips. She also had a keen knowledge of the Bible, and until dementia took her memory, she was able to discuss spiritual concepts and Biblical history with a great deal of knowledge and insight. She was a kind person.
There are no known close relatives. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers and her little dog, Buddy.
Private inurnment will take place in Sunset Memorial Park, Hoquiam.
