Janice Fay Smith, age 87, a lifetime resident of Hoquiam, died on May 2, 2025, at her residence in Hoquiam. Janice was born on Dec. 5, 1937, in Hoquiam to George J. and Ellen J. (Erickson) Norris. She graduated from Hoquiam High School in 1956.

For 20 years, she had worked in claims for Durney Insurance, then an additional 10 years for Chukar Claims.

She and Charles “Chuck” Smith were married on July 25, 1958. He preceded her in death on Sept. 13, 2011.

Surviving relatives include two sons, Bruce Smith (Debi) and Brian Smith (Jill); two daughters, Jodi Dotson (Jim) and Julie Johnson (Daniel); six grandchildren, Taylor and Riley Smith, Molly McKay Zinkle (Andrew), Katy McKay Jones (Michae), Joel Johnson and Maddie Johnson; and three great-grandchildren, Benjamin Miller, Piper Jones and Ansen Zinkle.

Janice was preceded by 9 brothers and sisters, Marian Norris Gilman, Patricia Norris Allen, Peggy Norris Finley, Phyllis Norris Capparelli, Joan Norris Schneider, Sally Norris Hegg, George Norris Jr., Charles Norris and Walter Norris.

A private urn committal will be held at Hoquiam’s Sunset Memorial Park.

Arrangements are by the Coleman Mortuary in Hoquiam.
