On Monday Nov. 16, 2020, Janette Kay Richardson concluded her human experience peacefully in her home at the age of 70. Janette Kay Sheraton “Jani Kay” was born on March 27, in Everett, Washington, to Jack and Nina Sheraton. As the youngest born, with two older brothers, Mike and Dennis, no one would argue that she was the mastermind behind all of their childhood antics.

On Jan. 2, 1972, she gave life to her greatest accomplishment: not only her son, but her best and truest friend, Robert John Ackerman. After losing him in 1993, she poured her heart into her grandson, Isaac Ackerman. He was the light of her life and gave her such joy and purpose.

In 1994, Jan and Jim Richardson reconnected and married. He was her most loyal ally and fiercest prank rival, and their combined humor was contagious. To say their love was special was an understatement; it was a true example of soulmates. If you knew her, you know how quick her wit was. The only thing that came more quickly to her was a hug if she thought you needed it, but right after that she would give you a one-liner that would make you laugh even when you thought you couldn’t.

In addition to loving her family, Jan lived for watching a winning Seahawk game on a cozy rainy day with her brother Mike and adored animals. Although Jan had many careers in her lifetime, she loved none more than pet sitting with Happy At Home in Aberdeen, Washington. Jan cherished all her clients and spoke of them with pride and fondness. Our family thanks you for giving her so much happiness and fulfillment over the years.

As we all grieve the loss of such a special soul, may we also take comfort in knowing that Jim was up there hiding just behind the pearly gates, waiting to give her a good scare, have a laugh together, then take her to her son Robbie, brother Dennis, and beloved dogs to finally spend the holidays together after all these years.

In lieu of services, make someone laugh today, consider adopting or fostering a dog or cat that needs a second chance, make a small donation to PAWS of Grays Harbor in her memory, or give someone a hug who needs it. That’s what she would want most.

Jani Kay is lovingly survived by her grandson Isaac, brother Mike, nieces Amber and Jené, daughter-in-law Shannon, sisters-in-law Barbara and Beth, and best friend Maria.

Please leave a funny story or meaningful memory that you have of her here so we can all share in the love she created while she was with us.

Arrangements made by Harrison Family Mortuary.
