James Warnken, 96, a lifelong Aberdeen, Washington resident, passed away on Tuesday, March 31, 2020, at Grays Harbor Community Hospital in Aberdeen.

James Warnken, 96, a lifelong Aberdeen, Washington resident, passed away on Tuesday, March 31, 2020, at Grays Harbor Community Hospital in Aberdeen. He was born on April 17, 1923, to James Warnken, Sr. and Jennie Mae (Boganrife) Warnken.

James graduated from Weatherwax High School in 1941. After graduation he managed his father’s store, Jim’s Corner Grocery.

In 1943 James enlisted in the US Air Force where he maintained B-52’s until he was honorably discharged in 1946. He was recalled to service from 1950 to 1951. He returned to the Harbor and he worked at Acme Door for eight years before becoming a postal carrier at the Aberdeen Post Office.

James met and married Margaret Sybil Beshers in 1948 and they remained married until her passing in 2002.

After retiring from the USPS he worked part-time as an insurance inspector and ended his time in the workforce as a security guard for Weyerhaeuser.

He enjoyed fishing and spending time with friends. He especially enjoyed his Sunday visits with his three children, as well as the time he spent with his kitty, Cali.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Sybil; his daughter, Carla and his sister, Marvine.

James is survived by his sons, Doug Warnken (Bonni) of Aberdeen and Steve Warnken (Nancy) of Montesano; his daughter, Taimi Warnken Miller of Montesano; four grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild and other relatives.

A private graveside will be held at a later date.

Arrangements are by the Coleman Mortuary, 422 – 5th Street in Hoquiam.
