Born Oct. 30, 1926
Died June 23, 2020
On June 23, 2020, at the age of 93, Alva Walker was reunited in heaven with her beloved daughter Kathleen Bruneau; her husband, Lester “Pete” Walker; parents, Ashley and Mabel Brooks; sister and brother-in-law Orma and Warren Willis; and sister-in-law Judy Brooks, who preceded her in death.
Alva was born in Edmonton, Alberta Canada, and at the young age of 3 the Brooks family immigrated to Clearwater, Washington. As a young adult, Alva spent many years in the Aberdeen and Hoquiam area, and relocated to Oregon after marrying and having three children. Oregon remained her home for the duration of her working years, raising children and working as a first grade schoolteacher in Glide, Oregon before retiring.
Later in life, Alva returned to Washington and enjoyed sewing, cake decorating, reading, gardening and attending church. She was constantly volunteering, and countless baby blankets and quilts were sewn and donated to various missions.
Alva leaves behind, son, Darrell Bruneau; daughter Janet Kane and son-in-law Lucas Kane; brothers Reggie Brooks and Ashley Brooks; sister-in-law June; grandchildren Grant Ruddick, George “Max” Bruneau, Lenisa Ruddick-Clemons and husband Jarred Clemons, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Strong in faith, her last conversations focused on her excitement to “go home” and see her daughter Kathy — often repeating her favorite song verse, “When we all get to heaven, what a day of rejoicing it will be!” We know she is now at peace, and the rejoicing has begun.
Alva was laid to rest at the Woodlawn Cemetery, St. Josephs Garden, in Lacey, Washington, with a service to be scheduled at a later date. Donations in her memory may be made to Children’s Shelter of Cebu, https://cebushelter.org
