It is with great sadness that we announce that our beloved husband, father, brother and poppa, Howard Lacefield has passed away. He died at home surrounded by family on Nov. 13, 2021. Howard was 86 years old and a lifelong Harborite. He was born July 19, 1935, in Aberdeen to Willie A. and Mona M. (Wallace) Lacefield. He was raised in Hoquiam and graduated from Hoquiam High School with the class of 1954. Dad was a proud Hoquiam Grizzly and played football throughout school.
Howard met Carol Lundquist in the 10th grade. They were high school sweethearts and married Jan. 29, 1955.
After graduation Howard worked at ITT Rayonier until 1969. He built the Tops Motel in 1960 and rental complexes in the 1970s. Together Howard and Carol managed their businesses until selling the motel in 2000 and semi-retiring.
Howard is survived by his wife of 66 years Carol; daughter Patti (Bill) Swift; sons: Rick, Scott and Kurt; a sister, Estelle Griffey who will be 100 years Dec. 13, 2021; four grandchildren: Janna (Adam) Kemp, Ricki (Mark) Schlott, Kyle and Tyler Lacefield; six-great grandchildren, and daughters-in-law, Mary Clark and Diane Giron.
Our parents created many great family memories of clam digging, camping, hiking and water skiing, especially at Duck Lake and Wynoochee Dam. If the sun was out, we went skiing! Dad coached Little League Baseball for nine years at Olympic Stadium.
Over the years, mom and dad enjoyed traveling. They took trips to Cabo San Luca, Acapulco, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Cuba, Hawaii and several trips across the United States.
At his request, there will be no service. The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to PAWS.
Arrangements are by the Coleman Mortuary in Hoquiam.
