Howard “Howie” Stanley Hvidsten

Howard “Howie” Stanley Hvidsten peacefully passed away Monday, Feb. 22, 2021 in Puyallup.

Loving brother, husband, father, grandfather and friend Howard “Howie” Stanley Hvidsten peacefully passed away Monday, Feb. 22, 2021, at MultiCare Good Samaritan Hospital in Puyallup, Washington. He was 84 years old. Howie was born on Nov. 8, 1936, to Kaare and Mabel Hvidsten in Tacoma, Washington.

At just 6 years old Howie and his family moved to Aberdeen, Washington. He graduated from Aberdeen Weatherwax High School in the class of 1955. After graduation Howie enlisted in the Marine Corps and served from August 1955 to September 1957. He then went on to the Reserves and was honorably discharged on Aug. 16, 1961. During this time Howie met the love of his life, Marilyn Strong, and they later married on Feb. 8, 1958, in their hometown.

After Howie’s service in the military, he went to work for several different companies such as Western Lumber, Womer Brother, Francis Smith Logging, Friend & Rikalo Construction, Hagara & Sons Construction, and he was also a co-owner of JHD Diesel and Truck Repair Shop. Howie retired from working at the diesel shop in 1998. In his spare time, he enjoyed going fishing and camping.

Memorials may be made in honor of Howie to St. Jude and/or to Shriners for Children.

Howie is survived by his wife of 63 years, Marilyn Hvidsten, who resides at the family home; son David Hvidsten of Aberdeen; daughters Linda Manley of Lacey, Karla Foster of Elma, Lisa Simbe of Tacoma and Karen Hvidsten of Aberdeen; sister Joan Clifton of North Bend, Oregon; as well as 10 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents Kaare and Mabel Hvidsten, one grandson and one great-granddaughter.
