Helen Fitterer, a longtime Hoquiam resident, died on Jan. 20, 2018, at Westhaven Villa in Aberdeen.

Helen Fitterer, a longtime Hoquiam resident, died on Jan. 20, 2018, at Westhaven Villa in Aberdeen. Helen was born in Axford Prairie on March 28, 1925, to Tony and Josephine (Snyder) Plesha.

She graduated from Hoquiam High School in 1944. She would later begin working at the Aberdeen Safeway where she met Albert Frank Fitterer. On Jan. 17, 1950, she and Albert were married at Our Lady of Good Help Catholic Church in Hoquiam. They made their home on Perry Street from 1950 until she moved in 2015.

She loved children and being home to raise their daughter, Carol. In addition, she dearly loved all animals, even the stuffed variety. She was very meticulous concerning her yard and was noted for her gardening skills. She was a lifelong member of Our Lady of Good Help Church.

After Albert’s death, she worked for Mode O’Day Clothing Store in the Aberdeen Elks Building.

Surviving relatives include her daughter, Carol Waugh of Bellingham; grandchildren, Sarah Waugh of Denver, Colo. and David Waugh of Bellingham and numerous nieces and nephews, including Janice Hart who assisted in her care.

In addition to her husband Albert and parents, she was preceded by her brothers, George and Matt Plesha.

Visitation will be at the Coleman Mortuary from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 24, 2018.

A funeral mass will be at 12:00 Noon on Thursday, Jan. 25, 2018, at Our Lady of Good Help Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park.
