Harvey B. Rodin

Harvey Rodin of Aberdeen passed away Saturday, May 19, 2018.

Harvey Rodin of Aberdeen passed away Saturday, May 19, 2018. He was 91. Harvey was born on Jan. 8, 1927, in Kenmare, N.D. to Edward and Alice (Ekstrom) Rodin. He graduated from Kenmare High School in 1944. He joined the United States Army in 1946 and served in Korea as a private. He received an honorable discharge in June of 1947.

After the military Harvey married Jean M. Rust in Sanish, N.D. on Sept. 7, 1947. They celebrated their 70th anniversary this last September. After their wedding, they moved to Fargo, N.D. where Harvey attended Interstate Business College.

Harvey went to work at Shemorry Motor Co. in Williston, N.D. After nine years the family moved to Aberdeen, Washington where Harvey worked as a bookkeeper at Grays Harbor Equipment. In 1966 Harvey obtained an accounting position at the Grays Harbor PUD where he worked until he retired in 1991.

In retirement Harvey was an active volunteer in the community. He devoted many hours to helping build the sanctuary at the Central Park Baptist Church. He was involved in many political campaigns, worked at the Food Bank and the Union Gospel Mission, and continued to manage his tree farm on the Wishkah River where he loved to cut and split wood, trim limbs, clean brush and spend hours in the outdoors. Harvey was also an avid Aberdeen Bobcat basketball fan and for many years never missed a home game.

Harvey loved to work, but more than anything, he loved his family and his Lord Jesus Christ. He was an active member of local Baptist churches throughout his life. He shared his faith with others by serving as a deacon in the church, by singing as a part of a gospel trio in the community, by his friendly and loving testimony to anyone he met, and by visiting those in need.

Harvey will be remembered for his love of family, his hard work ethic, his friendly personality, wonderful smile and his passion for Christ.

Harvey is survived by his loving wife Jean Rodin of Aberdeen; son John (Julie) Rodin of Hoquiam; daughter Susan (Rich) Van Volkinburg of Cosmopolis and Sheryl (Gary) Carvalho of Graham; sister Myrna Chavez of Henderson, Nev.; 11 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Harvey will be laid to rest at Wynooche Cemetery in Montesano.

A celebration of Harvey’s life will take place at 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 26, 2018, at Central Park Baptist Church, 6308 Central Park Dr, Aberdeen. A reception will follow.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Central Park Baptist Church or the Union Gospel Mission.
