Gerardo Bolong Jr., 69, passed Jan. 30, 2022, in Federal Way.

A 1970 graduate of Weatherwax High School, Gerardo received an education degree from Western Washington State College in 1974. He began his teaching career at Cosmopolis Elementary, then later at the SeaTac Christian Academy. He covered high school sports for 35 years in the Federal Way area for a local weekly newspaper. In recent years, Gerardo could also be found ushering at Seattle Mariner baseball games.

A talented high school baritone player, he also played in the Aberdeen Elks Band, then the Federal Way Symphony Band.

A 2004 heart transplant enabled Gerardo to enjoy life for many additional years.

Born in 1952 in Batac, Ilocos Norte, Philippine Islands to Gerardo Bolong Sr. and Visitacion Bolong, he is survived by sister Verna in Lakewood and brother Daniel (Janet) in Bothell along with two nieces, a nephew, grand-nieces and grand-nephews.

No memorial service is planned.
