Gerald E. McCloskey, age 87, a longtime resident of the Harbor, died on March 13, 2021, in Tacoma, Washington.

Gerald E. McCloskey, age 87, a longtime resident of the Harbor, died on March 13, 2021, in Tacoma, Washington. He was born on Sept. 29, 1933, in Enumclaw, Washington, to Leo John and Gertrude Elizabeth (Legee) McCloskey. The family moved to the Harbor, where Jerry attended local schools, including St. Mary’s School.

On July 29, 1955, he and Pat McCormick were married in Carson City, Nevada. The couple made their home in Hoquiam until moving to Aberdeen in 2002.

After high school, he joined the U.S. Navy and served for over 20 years. After his retirement, he began working for the city of Hoquiam in the Water Treatment Plant where he worked another 20 years.

Jerry was very involved in the community. He had been a member of Our Lady of Good Help Catholic Church, Hoquiam Lions Club, the Polish Club, J.T Quigg Knights of Columbus, and was active in the Feeding the Hungry program. For many years, he ran Bingo at OLGH and volunteered in providing coffee at the Elma rest stop.

Surviving relatives include his wife Patricia of the family home in Aberdeen; three sons: Michael McCloskey of Aberdeen, T.J. McCloskey (Lucy) of Lacey and Dennis McCloskey of Summerville, South Carolina; a daughter, Lynn Sneed (Ralph) of Puyallup; three grandchildren: Melissa Schnase (J.R.) of Bucoda, Danny Sneed of Puyallup and Ryan Sneed of Puyallup and one great-granddaughter, Izabel Schnase of Bucoda. A brother, Arnold McCloskey died previously.

At this time there will be no service.

Cremation arrangements are by the Coleman Mortuary.
