Frederick Gordon Magee, 95, Montesano resident and former pipefitter for Texaco Refinery in Anacortes, Wash., died July 5, 2017, at Montesano Health and Rehab in Montesano, Wash.

Frederick was born on Oct. 18, 1921, in Wesson, Miss. to Frank Grover and Cassie (Edwards) Magee. He grew up in Mississippi and attended school there until joining the Navy in 1941 serving in the Pacific Theater.

It was while in the Navy that he met Eileen ‘Dolly’ Butts in Monterey, Calif. and on Dec. 15, 1945, he married Dolly in San Francisco. She resides at the family home.

Following his honorable discharge, he went to school for training as a pipefitter in Spokane, Wash. He worked in Spokane for a while, and then to work in Ohio and Oregon. In 1956, he moved to Anacortes to help build the Texaco Refinery and continued working there until his retirement in 1983. The next 18 years were spent between Mt. Vernon, Wash. and Mesa, Ariz. He moved to Montesano in 2005.

He was a member of the Mt. Vernon Elks Lodge, The Mt. Vernon Methodist Church and was attending the Montesano Presbyterian Church. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, golf, gardening and dancing.

Frederick is survived by his wife of 71 ½ years, Eileen ‘Dolly’ Magee of Montesano; two sons: Michael of Olympia and Robert of Seattle; a daughter, Kathy (Jerry) Gramprie of Vancouver, Wash.; four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

There will be a celebration of life on Saturday, July 22, 2017, at 2 p.m. at the Country Estates Clubhouse on Clemons Rd in Montesano. A committal service with military honors on Thursday, July 27, at 2 p.m. in the Tahoma National Cemetery, Kent, Wash.
