In Loving Memory of

Franklin H. Stevens

1933-2018

“Born Again” Oct 1963

Franklin H. Stevens (Steve) passed away peacefully with his daughter, Debi, by his side and joined his Heavenly Father on April 12, 2018 after a six month battle with brain cancer. Frank was born June 15, 1933 in Waterloo, Iowa to Wilhelm and Naomi Stevens. He grew up with four siblings, Myrna, Lottie, Wilma and Daryl, all who proceeded him in death as did is son, Wayne, from his first marriage, granddaughter, Patricia, and great-granddaughter, Kari.

Frank joined the Air Force in 1950 and served in Alaska, Korea, Vietnam, Iowa and Germany where he married his second wife, Hannelore Fischer, and where his daughter Debi was born in 1961. Coming back to the states again to Iowa they had their son, Cary, in 1964. Frank served in both the Korean and Vietnam wars. After that tour, he was assigned to California and after 21 years in the Air Force, he retired in 1971 from Vandenberg A.F.B.

The family moved to Sacramento, California and in 1973 moved to Cosmopolis, Washington where he was caretaker of Cosmopolis Bible Chapel’s Shiloh Bible Camp and was involved in helping build the camp, until moving into the town of South Bend in 1976 where he worked for Coast Oyster Company for many years. He then drove bus for the South Bend School District and later for Pacific Transit. He was also a deputy reserve for the Pacific County Sheriff’s Department for many years.

During his time in South Bend, he was active in in the Elks Club and the V.F.W. in Raymond and Westport and also as Shriner of the Afifi Temple.

He was most proud of stepping into his sister Myrna’s shoes to make a career in the Air Force, as well as see his son Wayne make a career in the U.S. Navy, his son Cary and grandson David in the Air Force and now his youngest grandson Patrick in the U.S. Army.

Dad was happiest the last two and half years at the Armed Forces Retirement Home in Gulfport, Mississippi among his military comrades and great friends and caregivers at the “Home”. We thank them for their great care and friendship.

Frank “Steve” Stevens is survived by his wife, Hannelore; daughter Debi; son Cary; grandchildren: David, Jessica and Patrick, great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Frank was laid to rest on April 18, 2018, at the military cemetery in Keokuk, Iowa. Donations in his honor may be made to Cosmopolis Bible Chapel for Shiloh Bible Camp or to the Shriners Hospital.
