Floyd Fred Roberts, 79 years of age and a longtime Hoquiam, Washington area resident, died on Tuesday, July 21, 2020, in Elma, Washington. He was born on October 17, 1940, in Pound, Virginia, to Ira Wade and Martha Alice (Dollarhyde) Roberts.
He was raised and attended school in Pound, Virginia. At the age of 18 he entered the service with the U.S. Army and served in Korea for two years.
Floyd came to the Harbor area in 1961 and worked in area shake mills, including for Chuck Carr and his brother, Clarence Roberts. He later worked as a shake block cutter.
He enjoyed clam digging, and he loved to go fishing on the Humptulips River with his son-in-law, his brothers, his grandson, his nephew and others. He also liked hunting deer and grouse with his brother.
Floyd loved his family more than anything and enjoyed the numerous times he spent with them.
Floyd is survived by his daughters, Kay and her husband, Larry, of Montesano, his daughter, Angela of Flagstaff, Arizona; his grandchildren, Shannon, Misty, Devin and Bryson; his great-grandchildren, Ryan, Lucas, Parker, Braylee and Tyler; his brother, Dennis of Hoquiam; his sisters, May of Tennessee and Betty of Quinault, Washington and other relatives.
A celebration of his life will be held later.
Arrangements are by the Coleman Mortuary, 422 5th Street in Hoquiam.
