Florence May Spalding (Winings), 92, of Elma, Washington, passed away Jan. 9, 2023.

Florence May Spalding (Winings), 92, of Elma, Washington, passed away Jan. 9, 2023. Florence was born to John and Mabel Winings on Oct. 21, 1930, in Garden City near McCleary, Washington.

She graduated from Elma High school in 1949. On June 1, 1952, Florence married Paul Spalding. They were married for 31 years. She enjoyed gardening, farming, animals, crocheting and baking. She worked for the Elma School District in the lunchroom and then became a bus driver. She worked 30+ years before retiring. Florence was very involved with the Baptist church, teaching Sunday school, Awana, Circle group and jail ministry. She participated in mission trips to California. She was a lifelong member of the Elma Grange #26.

She is survived by her son, David (Katherine) Spalding and grandchildren Jason Spalding of Elma, Washington, Amy (Chad) Timm of Union, Washington and Heidi (Kolbey) Kesler of Elma; great-grandchildren: Zachary Carson, Phaedra Patterson, Arianna Patterson, Joanna Timm, Emma Spalding and Kolbey Kesler II; numerous nieces and nephews, and extended family members.

Florence was preceded in death by her parents John and Mable Winings, her husband Paul Spalding, daughter Donna Spalding, great-grandson Mitchell Brady, two sisters: Nancy Bell and Pearl Lewis and three brothers: Robert, Walter and Richard Winings.

There will be a graveside service held Monday, Jan. 23, 2023, at 1 p.m. at the Elma Masonic Cemetery. Funeral reception to follow after the service at Elma First Baptist Church.
