Elsie (Miller) DuBois passed away at age 92 on July 6, 2018.

Elsie (Miller) DuBois passed away at age 92 on July 6, 2018. She was born to Dallas and Elmira Miller in Froid, Mont. on May 30, 1926. Elsie was the second of six children. In 1939, her parents moved the family to Grays Harbor for more work opportunities during the Great Depression.

The family first lived at Copalis Beach until Dallas eventually purchased a log truck and moved the family to Hoquiam. Elsie graduated from Hoquiam High School and in 1946, she enrolled at Central Washington State College. Unfortunately, her mother was tragically killed by a hit and run driver, and Elsie returned home to take care of her younger siblings.

That same year, she married Jacques DuBois. Elsie and Jacques were active members and officers of the Hoquiam VFW and its Ladies Auxiliary. Elsie was very active in the local and state credit union associations and was a founder and leader of the Sweet Adelines, a local choral group.

Friends recall her love of family, music and performing arts as well as her insistence on respect for others, a strong work ethic, loyalty, persistence and resiliency under adverse conditions.

Elsie is survived by her brother Don of California; her sister Elizabeth of Arizona; her children: Diana, Jacquie, Larry, Ken (Mary), Pat Oleachea (Tom Quigg), Louis (Jan), Frank (Debi), Teresa, and Kathleen Tanselli (Matt); 11 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.

At the family’s request there should be no flowers. Rather, in honor of her love of the arts, remembrances may be sent to the Grays Harbor Community Foundation – Fund for Public Art.

A “dessert social” and celebration of her life will be held for her friends and family on Saturday, July 21, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Hoquiam Elks Club.
