Ella Louise (Ariss) Korpi, 78, of South Bend, Washington, passed away at home on May 7, 2021.

Ella was born in Seattle, Washington on June 14, 1942, to William “Bill” and Ruth (Shaw) Edwards. She grew up with three siblings: Arnold Ariss, Margaret “Midge” Porter and Carl (Teresa) Ariss.

Ella graduated from South Bend High School in 1961, and worked for a short period of time as a nursing assistant in Seattle.

Ella married the love of her life, Nick Korpi on Jan. 6, 1973. They made their home in South Bend. She was a devoted homemaker and she enjoyed her time babysitting. She volunteered at the South Bend Chauncey Davis Elementary, at her churches, South Bend and Raymond Eagles, and the Backpack Program. She was a proud member of the Chinook Indian Nation.

She enjoyed playing cards with the card club, going to bingo and casino, and shopping trips with her friends and family. She cherished spending time with her grandchildren. She was an avid baker and enjoyed gardening and her annual trip to Dennis Company to pick out her favorite flowers — double-headed pansies.

Ella is survived by her sons: Douglas Sands and Nickolas Korpi; daughter, Cynthia Sands, granddaughter Kyra and grandson Joseph. She is also survived by her brother Carl (Teresa) Ariss, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Ella was preceded in death by her parents, Bill and Ruth, sister Midge, brother Arnold, daughter-in-law Tammie and granddaughter Mariah.

A celebration of life and memorial service will be held at 2 p.m Saturday, June 5, 2021, at the Raymond Elks Lodge.
