Duane Robert Madison, age 86, a resident of Aberdeen, passed on Nov. 21, in Hoquiam, Washington.

Duane Robert Madison, age 86, a resident of Aberdeen, passed on Nov. 21, 2020, in Hoquiam, Washington. He was born on Sept. 11, 1934, in Nebish, Minnesota, to Valley L. and Vera M. (Haney) Madison. At a young age, he moved out west with his family, relocating to Hoquiam in 1944 and later to Aberdeen where he resided.

Duane had several jobs in the area including Rayonier then Grays Harbor Paper where he retired in 1994. In the meantime, he had a dump truck business.

In October of 1954, he married Betty Shaw. Together they had three children. Betty, the love of his life, passed away in March of 1973.

He started his own bicycle repair shop from his home for several years as he really enjoyed repairing and giving away these bicycles.

Duane enjoyed hunting for years with his father “Pa” and his brothers. He was a Minnesota Vikings fan, liked going to the gym, crossword puzzles, listening to the radio and “Coffee Talk” with Doug McDowell. His family enjoyed his stories about his life in Northern Minnesota, his hunting experiences, and in the 1940s trapping rodents on the Hoquiam hill as a teenager.

He was strong, smart, and funny as shown by his intelligence in his younger years.

He attended and was baptized at the Church of Christ in Central Park.

Duane is survived by his daughter, Sharon K. Madison of Aberdeen; siblings, Wanda Madison of Yakima, Bruce (Darlene) Madison of Central Park and Janet (Ray) Young of Hoquiam as well as seven grandchildren: Joe Madison, Carlina Escalante, Levi Madison, Ashley Madison, Adrien Pacheco, Nichole Madison and Betty Madison; 16 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Lou Madison; a son, David Madison; a daughter, Sue Ann Pacheco; his deceased siblings include, infant, Faye Madison, Leroy Madison of Hoquiam, Dorothy Ward of Port Orchard, Myrna Cherry of Elma and Karen Church of Aberdeen.

He will be greatly missed by his family and his cat, Rader.

Masks and social distancing were observed at his graveside service that was held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 2, 2020, at the Satsop Cemetery in Satsop, Washington with Preacher Rick Ashlock officiating.

A celebration of his life will be held at a later date when larger gatherings are available.
