Donald R. “Donnie” Young

Donald R. “Donnie” Young, age 53, a resident of Hoquiam, passed away on Oct. 13, 2020, at Grays Harbor Community Hospital in Aberdeen after a long illness. He was born on July 29, 1967, in Aberdeen to Raymond A. Young and Darlene L. (Laytham) Young.

He attended Aberdeen and Hoquiam schools.

Donnie was a fisherman. At the age of 9, he began fishing with his father on the commercial boat, the Olga. That was the beginning of his career. Donnie and his father fished together on the fishing vessel Marie II for several years as captain and captain. Later Don purchased the boat Donna. He was so proud. Indeed he was a fisherman at heart. He fished the waters of the Washington and Oregon coast.

Surviving relations include his father Raymond A. Young (Janet) of Hoquiam; mother Darlene L. Laytham of Aberdeen; a niece, Stephanie Balestra of Longview; step-sister Kris Keller of Aberdeen; a great-niece London Moreno and great-nephew Kayson Barr, both of Longview as well as aunts, uncles, cousins and several good friends throughout his life.

He was preceded in death by his sister Dianne Young and great-nephew Jace Grimes.

Don adored his dog Angel and his cats alike. He enjoyed living on his family’s homestead property on Chenois Creek until his final days.

Due to the COVID-19 restrictions, there will be no service at this time.

Donations are suggested to PAWS of Grays Harbor.
