Dixie Lee Parker passed away on May 2, 2020, at Grays Harbor Community Hospital. She was born on Jan. 18, 1935, to Earl and Hettie Parker. She was a lifelong resident of the Wishkah Valley, born and raised.

Dixie graduated from Wishkah Valley High School in 1953. After Dixie graduated from high school, she joined the U.S. Navy. She served from 1954-1956. While in the Navy Dixie was awarded the National Defense Service Medal.

Once she was out of the Navy, Dixie worked for Rainier sawmill at their guard station for two years. Dixie then became a nanny for 17 years for Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Tokarczyk who were like a second family to her.

Dixie is survived by her son, Richard (Toni) Parker of Ocosta and her daughter, Melinda Helberg of Montesano. She is also survived by her brother. Bob (Rose) Parker of Cosmopolis and sisters, Bonnie Solheim of Central Park and Dee Dee (Jim) Johnson of the Wishkah Valley.

Dixie’s joy in life was being a grandma to six grandchildren: Casey (Nic) Kiser, Ryan (Amy) Christenson, Tiana Parker, Bryce Parker, Shari Helberg and John Helberg. She also had the added blessing of enjoying time with 10 great-grandchildren; Braeden: Jace and Liam Kiser; Cole and Conner Christenson; Trista Graham, Veli Ambrocio, Anthony Couch Jr,; and Caleb and Katelyn Helberg. Dixie also was close with numerous nieces and nephews and their families.

In spite of her disabilities, Dixie enjoyed making sure her family, friends and grandkids all had something for each celebration. Cooking and baking for her family and friends kept her busy. She was known for making wonderful scrabble mix for special occasions. Her other specialties were awesome clam chowder and chili with cornbread. Dixie was also an avid Mariners and Seahawks fan.

The family would like to thank all the great care and friendship that Dixie received from many wonderful caregivers.

Dixie was preceded in death by her parents, and sadly, her firstborn daughter, Debbie Christenson.

Dixie remained very close to her son-in-law Lanny until her death.

Dixie was laid to rest at Wishkah Valley Cemetery.

Due to the pandemic crisis affecting us all, we have postponed any celebration of life plans at this time. We hope to plan something in the near future.

Any donations or memorials may be made to the National Veterans Foundation or the American Cancer Society in Dixie’s name.
