Delores “Dee” June Sutherby, 94, of Aberdeen, passed away on Monday, Nov. 11, 2024, at Summit Pacific Medical Center in Elma, Washington after a long and fulfilling life.

Dee was born on June 26, 1930, in Aberdeen, Washington to parents, Roy Leonard and Nellie (Creek) Leonard. The family resided in Aberdeen where Dee attended Aberdeen schools and later moved to Elma, Washington.

May 5, 1947, Dee married Norman Sutherby. Throughout their 58 year marriage, they had 8 children: Sharon, Janice, Brenda, Debra, Susan, Mike, Mark and Matthew. The couple also fostered children for many years. Dee was a homemaker and for a short time a cook with Beechwood Nursing Home.

She took great pride in caring for her husband, children and foster children. After 58 years together, Norman passed away in June 2005.

Dee enjoyed music of all genres, and especially loved to sing. Dee and Norm recorded a few songs together and would sing together at local events. She also enjoyed spending time with animals especially cats and dogs. Dee loved going to the Elma Senior Center for lunch and socializing. She was abundantly loved and will be greatly missed.

Dee is preceded in death by her husband, Norman; children: Mark Sutherby and Sharon Shefler; grandchildren: Michael Sutherby and Nicolas Cardinal, and her parents, Roy and Nellie Leonard.

Dee is survived by her children: sons, Mike Sutherby and Matthew Sutherby, both of Elma, Washington; daughters: Janice (Perry) Olson of Graham, Washington; Brenda Sutherby and Susan Sutherby, both of Ocean Shores, Washington; and Debra Joines, of Montesano, Washington; and her grandchildren: Zachary Shefler, Vince Shefler, Renee Iverson; Dawn Shefler, Jeremy Cooper, Rachel Cooper, Bess Cooper, Jason Joines, Angie Brown, Jake Sutherby, Marcus Sutherby, Mason Sutherby, Jessica Cardinal and Brittney Sutherby; 15 great-grandchildren and twin sisters Bonnie and Barbara who reside in Aberdeen, Washington.

Immediate family services are scheduled, along with a small celebration of life at the Elma Senior Center in December with Dee’s friends. An urn committal will take place at Satsop Cemetery.
