Delmur Nielsen, 89 years of age passed away peacefully on Dec. 27, 2019, in Aberdeen.

Delmur Nielsen, 89 years of age passed away peacefully on Dec. 27, 2019, in Aberdeen. He was born on Jan. 1, 1930, In Alberta, Canada, to Holgar and Edith (Harper) Nielson.

He was preceded in death by siblings Melvin Nielsen, Florence Maglio and Helen Hamilton.

The family originally moved from the U.S. to Canada to homestead. They later returned and settled in Pacific Beach.

Del served in the U.S. Air Force where he learned his welding and machinist skills. He was stationed at several bases, and while in Illinois he met and married Ruth. They were then transferred to Fairchild Air Force Base in Spokane, Washington, where their daughter, Rhonda, was born. At that point, Delmur was honorably discharged from the Air Force and the family moved to Copalis Crossing, where sons Phillip and Michael were born.

Delmur worked at Aloha Lumber Company, MarHook, Mayr Brothers and finished his career at Hoquiam Plywood. He also operated Nielsen Carpentry and Construction for many years.

He had been a member of the Hoquiam Eagles, the Hoquiam Elks, the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers as well as the Timber Operators Council.

Delmur was a terrific, patient and kind father, grandfather and great-grandfather, as well as being a great friend to Frank, Bill and Mike.

He is survived by his children, Rhonda (Steve), Phillip (Isa) and Michael. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Davis (Donna), Jonathan, Andra (Dane) and his great-grandchildren, Harold, Lauren, Ellisabela and Lucas.

The family requests donations be made to the Central Park Baptist Church, 6308 Central Park Drive, Aberdeen 98520.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m., Friday, Jan. 3, 2020, at the Coleman Mortuary Chapel with Pastor Charles L. Miller. Concluding services and interment with military honors will follow in the Sunset Memorial Park in Hoquiam.

Direction is by the Coleman Mortuary, 422 – 5th Street in Hoquiam.
