Dawn Louise Sundberg passed away on December 21, 2024, surrounded by her family.
Our feisty ray of sunshine was the first-born child of Randall J. Neathery and Charlene L. (Neathery) Damitio. On May 29, 1964 their lives changed forever. Brother Darrin was born in 1967 and little sister Andi in 1969. Dawn shared a close, life-long bond with her siblings.
Dawn graduated from Montesano High School in 1982. While working in various capacities for Grays Harbor County, she was loved by her co-workers. They appreciated her wicked sense of humor and capacity for creating a fun environment.
She married Phil West in 1988 (divorced in 2002) and they raised two sons, T.J. and Gabe. Both of whom she referred to as her favorite. Dawn was quick to say that her boys were her greatest accomplishment. She believed the reason they turned out so well was because she lived by the motto, “If you can’t set a good example, serve as a horrible warning.”
On August 14, 2010, Dawn married Bob Sundberg. They were soul mates who shared a fairytale love and friendship for over 15 years. They enjoyed quiet days at their home overlooking the lake, camping in Brinnon, playing crib, watching the Seahawks, and spending time with family and friends.
She was small in stature with a big personality and a smile that would light up a room. She was unapologetically her own person who lived life on her terms. She was known for her contagious laugh and crazy, sometimes dark, sense of humor. Her soft loving side, especially for family, was her hallmark.
Dawn was very competitive, a poor loser and even worse winner. She took great pride in victory. Win or lose, she loved to trash talk her opponent. She loved a good game of Scrabble, Screw your Neighbor (cards), and Cribbage.
One of Dawn’s favorite activities was listening to live music, especially rock and heavy metal music. She enjoyed listening to her kids play guitar and sing. She had a fondness for True Crime TV, rescue dogs, coke, cheeseburgers and made a mean macaroni salad.
Dawn is survived by her loving husband, Bob Sundberg, parents Randall J. (Kerri) Neathery, Charlene Damitio, siblings Darrin (Laura) Neathery, and Andrea (Jarrod) Todd. Sons T.J. West (Christina Coffelt) and Gabriel (Nicole) West, bonus son Zane (Amara) Sundberg and bonus daughter Allie (Lucas) Barr, Niece Allison (Aaron) Daniels, and nephew Chad Neathery. By four grandchildren, known as G-Love to granddaughter Nora and Nana to grandsons Rydar, Fynn, and Rowan.
Dawn was a fighter to the very end who had a ready smile and words of love for those who meant the most to her. She will be missed as a wife, mother, sister, daughter, grandmother, aunt and friend.
In honoring her wishes, there will be no service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or Harbors Home Health and Hospice.
