David Shumate

David Shumate passed away peacefully Friday, July 10, 2020, at Grays Harbor Community Hospital in Aberdeen, Washington.

David Shumate passed away peacefully Friday, July 10, 2020, at Grays Harbor Community Hospital in Aberdeen, Washington. David was born to Rolland and Bernice Shumate on March 5, 1941, in Columbus, Montana.

With his family, David moved and was raised in Hoquiam. After Dave was done with school, he went to work for Weyerhaeuser. During this time, he met the love of his life, Charlotte Rieland, and they later married Jan. 25, 1969, in Elma. They both settled down and bought a house in Montesano in 1972. David kept working for Weyerhaeuser for 40 years until he retired in 2003.

Together David and Charlotte faithfully attended Central Park Neighborhood Church. He also was a part of the Eagles Club and the 20/30 Club. David had many hobbies in life such as woodworking, bowling and, most of all, spending time with his grandkids. He enjoyed watching his grandkids play sports.

David is survived by his wife of 51 years, Charlotte Shumate, of Montesano; son, Steve Shumate of Montesano; daughter, Cindy Stutesman of Seattle; brothers Floyd Shumate of Satsop and Bill Shumate of Rochester; sisters Ruby Triggs of Jasper, Alabama, Emerald Kelly of Portland, Oregon, and Burl Davis of Phoenix, Arizona, as well as 11 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren with one on the way.

He is preceded in death by his parents Rolland and Bernice, son Dennis Shumate, daughter Tina Benner, brothers Rolland Shumate Jr. and Bob Shumate and by sisters Coral Palmer, Opal Smith and Pearl Mitchell.

Memorials may be made in honor of David to Seattle Union Gospel Mission, 3800 S. Othello St., Seattle, WA 98118.

A memorial service will be held for David at the Central Park Neighborhood Church, 7010 Bryrwood Drive, Aberdeen, WA 98520 July 18, 2020, at 11 a.m.
