David Alexander Pinckney passed away on July 28, 2021, from complications of Alzheimer’s disease. David was born at St. Joseph Hospital in Aberdeen, Washington on Nov. 20, 1930, to Lester A. Pinckney and Evelyn (Giffin) Pinckney. David’s grandfather, Charles Alexander Pinckney, was a pioneer citizen of Aberdeen.

David grew up in Aberdeen and graduated from Weatherwax High School, class of 1949. Two years later, he earned his associate degree from Grays Harbor College. He excelled in track and field at both schools.

He married Betty Fairchild, whom he met on a hayride in Humptulips in the summer of 1948 where he worked as a fireboy for the state Forestry Department. They were married at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church on Sept. 25, 1954. They had two children: a daughter, Cynthia Lee and a son, Mark Alexander.

David worked as a sheet metal worker and roofer. David built the 419 Bland Street house in 1960. This is where he and Betty lived for the rest of their lives. David was a creative, self-taught carpenter and handyman. He enjoyed making things out of wood and metal for his friends and family.

Dave and Betty enjoyed square dancing and belonged to the Wishkah Swingsters. They took many trips across the United States and especially enjoyed New York and New Orleans. David was a gentle, patient and kind man who will be missed greatly by his family.

David is survived by his wife of nearly 67 years, Betty; daughter, Cindi (Sandy); son, Mark (Sarah); grandchildren, Julayne and Jayme Leigh Fleury and Cole and Lauren Pinckney; a great-grandson born Aug. 25, 2021; brothers, Scott (Nancy) Pinckney in Fairfax, Virginia and Donn (Annette) Pinckney of Aberdeen; brother-in-law, George Vlastelica of Fremont, California and several nieces and nephews.

David was proceeded in death by his parents, Lester and Evelyn, sister Patricia Vlastelica and brother-in-law Byron Fairchild.

At his request no service will be held.

As David was a lover of animals, in lieu flowers, donations may be sent to PAWS.
