Darlene Young, 88, a resident of Waynesville, North Carolina, passed away on Aug. 11, 2021, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Darlene Young, 88, a resident of Waynesville, North Carolina, passed away on Aug. 11, 2021, after a courageous battle with cancer. Darlene was born in Aberdeen, Washington on Nov. 14, 1932. She resided in Waynesville since 2008. She was the daughter of Leonard Whitman Young and Dorothy Ida Hellman Young of Aberdeen.

During the Korean War, she served in the U.S. Air Force at Headquarters, Far East Air Force in Tokyo, Japan.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her son, Raymond D. Massey Jr.

Survivors include her daughter, Christina Massey Stroemer (Terry) Otto of North Carolina; sons, Steven Massey (Anne) of Trout Creek, Montana; Guy Massey of Lake Butler, Florida and Leonard Massey (Shannon) of Cle Elum, Washington; two brothers, Leonard Young of Aberdeen and Phillip Young of Montesano; nieces, Suzie Graves and Pauline Young and nephews, David Young and Lenny Young, all who reside in Washington.

She is also survived by grandchildren: Shane Massey, Meashell Tomlinson, Georgia Hendricks, Samantha Massey and Stephanie Staier, all of Lake Butler, Florida; Brandon Massey and Breanna Massey who reside in Oregon and Washington and 12 great-grandchildren.

A graveside service was held at Dekle Cemetery in Lake Butler, Florida on Thursday, Aug. 19, 2021 at 10 a.m.

Elder Stephen Adler from her Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Waynesville will officiate at her service.

Archer-Milton Funeral Home of Lake Butler and Garrett Funeral Home of Waynesville are in charge of arrangements.
