Danny Jay Reeves, 72, a longtime Westport resident passed away on Monday, June 26, 2023, at his Westport home.

Danny was born Jan. 21, 1951 in Fort Lewis, Washington to Ervin Reeves and June (Freeden) Reeves. He was the third of four children. Danny and his family spent his first eight years in Sumner and then moved to Tokeland, Washington. He attended school in Tokeland until middle school at which time he transferred to Ocosta.

Danny started working at an early age and that’s when his love for being on the water and fishing began. He started as a deckhand and worked his way up to operator on numerous commercial fishing boats out of Westport. In 1977, he began gillnetting and had his first boat built, the “Miss Heather.” Later he purchased a crab boat and named it “Mr. Shane.”

In the off season Danny worked various jobs as he liked to be productive. He drove truck for DBC Paving and also worked for Global and NRC, cleaning up oil spills.

Danny was trustworthy, handy and hardworking. Danny knew how to keep busy; he could not sit still. If he wasn’t working, you would find him catching up with his friends around town, hot cocoa and breakfast at the Pine Tree (Westwind before it closed) and dinner at The Local, tinkering in his shop, or spending time with his kids and grandkids.

Danny was incredibly adept at learning how to do unfamiliar things on his own and then bringing them to life. He was very detail oriented and precise when it came to building his home and shed, doing various projects for family members and working on his boats. He took great pride in making and building. If you knew Danny you know he had a love for cars and trucks, having driven many different vehicles in his life. A couple standouts were his yellow El Camino, his ’51 Ford truck and a Chevy Impala.

He loved all things family. Danny never missed a sporting event, school activity or family get together. If you ever walked into his home you knew from the moment you entered that his heart lay with his kids: Heather and Shane, and his grandchildren. Danny attended the South Beach Christian Center regularly. He loved the Lord and his family, and we know he is at home with his Lord and Savior. Danny will be missed dearly and is loved greatly. He will be remembered for his kind heart and helping spirit. There is great comfort knowing that he touched so many lives and truly cared about being there for so many.

Danny is preceded in death by his parents, Ervin and June Reeves and brother, Timmy Reeves.

He is survived by his daughter, Heather Braseth and her fiancé, Charles Gill, of Olympia; son, Shane Reeves, of Aberdeen, Washington; sisters: Kandy (John) Wassmer, of Glendale, Arizona; and Patty (Ken) VanDinter, of Pasco, Washington; and three grandchildren; Will, Alex and Chelsea.

A celebration of life will take place on Saturday, July 15, 2023, at 12 p.m. noon located at South Beach Christian Center. Danny’s favorite meal will be served.
