Daniel T. Hammock

Daniel T. Hammock, of Hoquiam, died at his home Nov. 26, 2023, after a short battle with cancer. He was 55.

Dan was born in Olympia on May 25, 1968, to Thomas W. and Mary R. (Niles) Hammock. He was raised in Montesano and graduated from Montesano High School in 1986. He went on to earn his bachelor’s degree in communications from Washington State University and remained a Cougs fan for life.

He began his career as a writer for Fishing and Hunting News in Seattle. After that, he served for several years as communications director for the Washington State Grange. From 2016 to 2021 he was a reporter for The Daily World in Aberdeen. After that, he became the public information officer for the Grays Harbor County Department of Health, a job he enjoyed doing until he could do it no more.

Dan was an avid sportsman who loved hunting in the Wynoochee Valley and other favorite spots. He grew up hunting and fishing with his father and had many fond memories of those times.

He also was a fervent fan of Kiss and amassed an impressive collection of band memorabilia.

Though he was often self-deprecating, Dan was a good man. He had a rare wit and was always quick to help a friend or family member when needed.

Dan is survived by his mother, Mary Hammock of Chimacum, Washington, and his twin sister, Debi Hammock of Fircrest, Washington. His father, Tom Hammock, predeceased him.

At Dan’s request, there will be no service.
