Clifford Eugene Roberson passed away at his Elma home on Monday, Jan. 23, 2017. He was 88. Clifford was born on April 29, 1928, to Leslie and Vina (Hudson) Roberson in White Star, Wash. He graduated from Elma High School.
On Jan. 15, 1947, Cliff joined the U.S. Navy. While enlisted, he traveled to San Diego, Calif.; Treasure Island, Calif.; aboard the U.S.S. Piedmont; Mare Island, Calif.; aboard the U.S.S. St. Paul; Bremerton, Wash.; Newport, R.I.; Coronado, Calif.; and Fresno, Calif. He earned 2 National Defense Service Medals, 6 Good Conduct Awards, the Korean Service Medal, the China Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, and the Navy Recruiter Award. Cliff retired after 20 years as a Storekeeper Chief Petty Officer on Jan. 25, 1967.
While serving in the military Cliff met Lula Ivene Vaughn. They wed on Nov. 16, 1957, in Elma, Wash. After his retirement he worked for the Federal Aviation Administration for 16 years, until 1983. It was then Cliff and Lula moved to the Elma area.
Cliff was a member of the Elma Church of God, V.F.W., and the Elma Food Bank. He also served as a Past Master 33rd Degree with the Masonic Lodge. He loved woodworking, old cars, traveling and Harley Davidson Motorcycles.
Clifford is survived by his wife Lula I. Roberson; son Delmer E. Roberson; daughters Doris E. Clarkston and Tamra L. White; brother Ervin Roberson; and sisters Doris Eaton, Betty Koch, and Avis Sund. Along with 11 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his son Michael E. Roberson and brother William Roberson.
A Service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 4, 2017, at Elma Church of God. A reception will follow. Memorials may be made to Elma Church of God (WOW).
