Clifford (Cliff) J. Hansmann, 95, a resident of Montesano for the last twenty-two years died Monday, June 12, 2023 at Pacific Care in Hoquiam.

Clifford (Cliff) J. Hansmann, 95, a resident of Montesano for the last 22 years, died Monday, June 12, 2023 at Pacific Care in Hoquiam. Cliff was born Jan. 5, 1928, in Raymond, to George and Sarah (Dichter) Hansmann.

Cliff was raised in Hoquiam and attended school there until his family moved to Aberdeen, Washington. He graduated from Weatherwax High School in 1946 and was the Associated Student Body President. After high school, Cliff attended Grays Harbor College and the University of Washington, where he joined the Chi Psi Fraternity.

During and after high school, Cliff worked for Barkley’s Men’s Clothing Store and his family’s jewelry store, Hansmann’s Jewelry.

On Aug. 31, 1951, Cliff married Joanne Pettit in Aberdeen. The couple moved to Tacoma where Cliff worked for Union Oil. In 1952 they moved back to Aberdeen and Cliff went to work for Jack Pettit Distributor Company. Cliff and Joanne purchased the business in 1975 and operated it until selling and retiring in 1990.

During his life Cliff was active in Aberdeen Little League, where he served as president and was the longest living member of the Aberdeen Elks Club. In 2010 he was honored to be the Elks Lodge Grand Parade Marshal. Cliff was also a member of the Grays Harbor National Guard as a Master Sergeant.

Cliff enjoyed traveling, golf, building and remodeling, watching his grandchildren in their sporting and school events, and donating to PAWS. Cliff is remembered fondly by all for his entertaining sense of humor, his pearls of wisdom that will be passed on to generations to come, an endearing smile that lit up any room, and an incredible work ethic that spanned his lifetime. Cliff was proud of his family and his accomplishments and has a legacy that will live on in his community and family.

Cliff is survived by his three daughters, Lynn Aue of Lacey, Mary (Bob) Kiser of Montesano, and Lee Hansmann Napier of Centralia; his five grandchildren, Nic and Jenna Kiser, Roland and Zane Aue, and Ryan Hansmann; his nine great grandchildren; and a sister Mary Hansmann Soper of Lacey. Cliff was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Joanne Hansmann, and his son Jack Hansmann. In 2004, Cliff married Genevieve Major and they resided in Montesano until his death.

There will be no formal services at his request. Inurnment will be at Fern Hill Cemetery.
