Clarence Robert Valentine Sr. passed away at his home in Montesano on Jan. 13, 2021.

Clarence Robert Valentine Sr. passed away at his home in Montesano on Jan. 13, 2021. He was born Aug. 10, 1937, to Alice Louise Fry and Silver Buell Valentine. Clarence was the 13th of 14 children born to Alice and Silver and the first to be born at a hospital. Clarence was a descendant of Wynoochee logging and farming pioneer families, and followed in their footsteps, lived the vast majority of his life on the farm, where he was raised, in the Wynoochee Valley. Clarence graduated from Montesano High School with the class of 1955.

Clarence married Lila Tomlin in June 1964. The couple continued to live at and operate the family farm, where they raised their four children: Clarence Jr., Benjamin, Anna and Lisa. Clarence and Lila later divorced and the family farm was sold.

Clarence was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers: Vernon, Lyle, Richard, Gerold, Roger and Harold and his sisters: Fern Anensen, Ernestine Wolf, Eunice Colombo, Doris Foster, Neva Schmidt and Alice Duncan. He is survived by one brother James (Janie) and one sister-in-law Ruth Valentine as well as his four children, Clarence Valentine Jr., Benjamin Valentine (Robyn), Anna Sullivan (Pat), and Lisa Shehee (Randall), numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

A small service for family and friends will be held at the Wynoochee Cemetery on Friday, Jan. 29, at 11 a.m.
