Cheryl Susan (Carter) Hutchison

Cheryl Susan (Carter) Hutchison died Thursday, July 15, 2021, at home in Elma.

She was born Jan. 9, 1946, in Spokane, Washington.

Her father was in the Navy Air Corps in Oklahoma when he met Tawana Margarite Ayers. Cheryl was their first daughter. After he left the Navy, their daughter Tawana Charlene Carter was born, followed by a third daughter Melissa Dawn Carter, who is called “Charlie.”

Cheryl completed the 8th grade in Chugiak, Alaska and graduated from East Anchorage High School in May 1964. One week later she married her boyfriend of four years, Fred Hutchison.

During their marriage of 57 years, she spent 24 years following her Navy husband in various military stations including four years in Atsugi, Japan and two years on the island of Adak, Alaska. At each military station she worked full time, usually as a comptroller as she was extremely intelligent and worked with numbers.

She was medically retired from Civil Service with Parkinson’s Disease in 1990. They family moved to Elma.

She had one son, Charles Richard who enjoyed motorcycles until his death in 1985.

Cheryl’s father died in Sequim in 1989 and her mother died in Olympia in 2000.
