Charles Edward Everson, 82, departed this world on April 15, 2020, after a brief hospital stay in Olympia. He was born on Nov. 22, 1937, to Walter and Dora Everson of Cosmopolis. He lived his entire life in Grays Harbor County — Cosmopolis, North River and Elma.

Chuck loved to talk with people. He had a large group of friends and acquaintances that he kept in contact with over the years. Chuck was always willing to lend a helping hand. He often spent his free time helping friends with their projects and repairs.

Chuck was a genius when it came to designing and building. Although he had no formal training or college degree, Chuck was able to engineer and build most anything. One of his early passions was to build and race hot rods.

Chuck was an expert equipment operator. He was able to navigate a backhoe with precision — even in precarious places. He had a great work ethic that lead to a career in operating most every piece of construction equipment imaginable. Chuck’s expertise contributed to the construction of cliff-side homes, malls, grocery stores, swimming pools and state park facilities at Washington’s beach parks. In his retirement years, he made a trellis in downtown Raymond as a part of the Wildlife Heritage Sculpture Corridor. He also designed and built a new gate for the North River Cemetery in Brooklyn.

Chuck spent his youth working for Major at the riding academy in Cosmopolis. His first job after high school was at Nelson Machine Shop in Aberdeen. He served in the Washington National Guard and in the Army at Camp Pendleton, California and in Germany. Over the course of his career, he worked for Elway Plumbing, Friend & Rikalo and other construction companies. He retired from Lakeside Industries in 1999. From the late 1970s until 1988, Chuck owned his own company — Everson Backhoe Service.

Chuck is proceeded in death by his father, Walter Everson, and his mother, Dora Everson Butterfield. He is survived by his wife, Betty; children, Dan and Melinda; grandchildren, Justin and Erik; brother Lee and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

“Catch ya later!” — Chuck Everson 1937-2020
