Carole Mae Mendoza, 83, a long-time Aberdeen resident and former secretary at the Coastal Community Action Council, passed away on Sunday, Dec. 12, 2021, at Virginia Mason Medical Center in Seattle, Washington.
Carole was born in Portland, Oregon to Edward and Lois (Kron) Ambrose on May 2, 1938. She grew up in Portland where she attended high school and where she met John Mendoza. Soon after, they moved to Aberdeen. On April 14, 1956, they married. He passed away on Dec. 18, 2012 in Aberdeen.
Carole raised her children and then went to work at Sears in 1981 for the next 10+ years. She then went to work for Coastal Community Action Council for 10 years and retired at age 65.
She was a member of the YMCA. She enjoyed crocheting, knitting, swimming, gardening and watching old movies. She also spent countless hours at the baseball parks.
Carole is survived by eight children, sons: Johnny Mendoza of Cosmopolis, Ronald Mendoza of Aberdeen, Jose K. Mendoza of Cosmopolis, Francisco E.C. (Yvette) Mendoza of Park City, Utah and Michael A. Mendoza of Centralia, Washington; daughters: Susan M. Eissler (Bob Van Ogle) of Aberdeen, Melissa (Joe) Wolfe of Aberdeen and Cristina (Bryan) Steuermann of Aberdeen; sisters: Judy Coleman of Portland, Oreg0n and Debbie (Jose) Hernandez of Rainier, Oregon; grandchildren: Jinny Star Marchand, Bette Jewel Lombardi (Vince), Johnny Mendoza, Roberto Gutierrez (Paulina), Adan Mendoza (Erica), Kimberly Mae Wolfe, Jordan Renae Wolfe, Joey Steuermann, Karissa Steuermann, Justin Steuermann (Ciara), Sierra Mendoza, Mason Mendoza, Kevin Strom, Branden Mendoza and Austin Mendoza; great-grandchildren: Arika Maelyn, Kyliann Cristina, JonniRenae, Jayce, Greyson, Hayden, Izaiah and Jacob.
Carole was preceded in death by a daughter, Cynthia Louise Gutierrez, a brother, Frank Ambrose and a grandson, Bryson Mendoza.
There will be a private family graveside service for Carole at Fern Hill Cemetery, Aberdeen, Washington.
Arrangements are entrusted to Twibell’s Fern Hill Funeral Home in Aberdeen.
