They moved to Boise after retiring and were active in several clubs, including the Les Bois Miata Club, the Idaho British Car Club, and the Welcome Club. Mike also enjoyed woodworking and building model tugboats.
Mike was a parishioner at the Cathedral of Saint John Catholic Church. Mike was happy to serve as a volunteer usher for many years. He had a special bond with the cathedral as his father was born in the house across the street.

Mike leaves behind five grandchildren: Thomas, Katherine, Charlotte, Harrison and Hudson. Mike is preceded in death by his wife Barbara, parents Jean and Thomas Hoyne, and daughter Elizabeth.
