Bonnie (Ghormley) Watson, 91, longtime Cosmopolis resident and bookkeeper, died Friday, July 21, 2017, at Pacific Care Center in Hoquiam, Wash.
Bonnie was born on Nov. 29, 1925, to Thomas and Isabella (Mills) Ghormley in Vancouver, Wash. She graduated from Fort Vancouver High School in 1943 and then went on to the University of Washington in Seattle for two years. She returned to Vancouver in 1945.
On March 27, 1948, in Vancouver, Wash., Bonnie married Wayne M. Bissell, a bombardier on the 1942 Doolittle Raid on Tokyo, and who later served as a pilot and 1st Lieutenant in the Army Air Corp during World War II. They would later divorce.
Bonnie moved to Hoquiam in 1959 and went to work as a bookkeeper for Major Line Cabinets in Hoquiam from 1960 to 1970. In 1968 she moved to Cosmopolis and resided there for over forty-five years.
On Sept. 11, 1971, Bonnie married Leonard Earl Watson in Elma, Wash. They spent the next month honeymooning in England and Ireland, visiting the Irish birthplace of her mother. Leonard passed away on May 10, 2007, in Aberdeen, Wash.
Bonnie was a member of the Hoquiam Elks Lodge, Cosmopolis Lions and the Hoquiam and Aberdeen Senior Centers. She enjoyed playing Pinochle and Bingo, going to Reno to play Keno, and crab feeds at the Hoquiam Elks club. She also enjoyed traveling with Len, her twin sister Betty and her husband Joe, and also with Len’s siblings. Bonnie was an avid fan of the Mariners and rarely missed watching a game on TV.
Bonnie is survived by her sons: Bruce Bissell of Aberdeen, Eric (Kristy) Bissell of Bellevue and Mark Bissell of Aberdeen; daughters: Nancy (Ken McDonald) Taylor of Hoquiam, Barbara (Jim) McCullough of Aberdeen and Jo Brown of Billings, Mont.; sister-in-law, Ruth Ghormley of Seattle; nine grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, one great-great-granddaughter, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Leonard, her parents, two brothers: Thomas and Willard Ghormley, her twin sister, Betty Hochwarter, and a granddaughter, Michelle Taylor.
A memorial service and celebration of life for Bonnie will take place at a later date.
There will be a private entombment at Sunset Memorial Park in Hoquiam, Wash.
