Bernice Marsalla Dewey of Aberdeen died March 15, 2021, at Orchard Park Rehabilitation in Tacoma.

Bernice Marsalla Dewey, 99, of Aberdeen died Monday, March 15, 2021, at Orchard Park Rehabilitation in Tacoma from complications with Covid-19. She was just two weeks from her 100th birthday.

She was born on March 29, 1921, in Gackle, North Dakota to Edward and Rose Fischer and came to Aberdeen from Grand Forks, North Dakota in 1946.

On Oct. 5, 1940, she married Raymond Dewey in Grand Forks. He died in 2002. She outlived three brothers and has one living sister.

Bernice was a life-time member of South Aberdeen Baptist Church, and in 1998 the church’s fellowship hall was dedicated to Ray and Bernice Dewey and is now called the Dewey Fellowship Hall. She was very involved in the church with different committees as well as a homemaker, caregiver ans waitress. She liked to bowl, dance, play cards and loved to listen and watch sports, especially the Mariners.

She is survived by a son Dale (Pat) Dewey of Hoquiam; three daughters: Judy (Karl) Bargmeyer of Congress, Arizona, Karen Kostenborder, of Salem, Oregon and Sharon (Dennis) Shrier of Tenino; a sister Donna Baker of Tacoma, seven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. She was fortunate to have been in two five-generation photos.

A memorial service will be at a later date at the South Aberdeen Baptist Church due to restrictions of the Coronavirus.
