Barbara T. Hoonan, 90, passed away peacefully on Jan. 5, 2018.
Barbara was born Feb. 15, 1927, in Seattle to John M. and Gladys Teutsch. In 1945, Barb attended the University of Washington and joined the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority. It was at UW where she met the love of her life, Robert S. (Bob) Hoonan. They married June 14, 1947, and moved to Aberdeen, Wash. where they raised seven children.
In addition to the full-time job of mom, Barb enjoyed water color painting, traveling, being an active member of her local P.E.O. chapters, and playing the piano and bridge. She also loved the game of golf, playing with her husband and friends for many years. Barb won five club championships at Alderbrook Golf Club above Hood Canal and seven more at Stoneridge Country Club in Poway, Calif.
Barb is survived by her brothers John (Delores) and Pete (Joani) and sister Sylvia (Steve); her seven children Michael (Suzanne), Kathleen (Tim), Brian (Kim), Kevin (Barb), Barry (Jing), Shawn (Peta), and Kelly (Lisa); 19 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.
Long known for her ever present smile and sparkling eyes, Barb will also be remembered for her way of making all comers feel welcome, comfortable, and included.
All comers are invited to attend a Celebration of Life Saturday, Jan. 20, from 1-4 p.m. at the Alderbrook Golf Clubhouse, 330 Country Club Dr. E, Union, WA.
Memorials may be made to The First Tee (Seattle branch: 4101 Beacon Ave S., Seattle, 98108; thefirsttee.org) or Washington State Chapter of the P.E.O. (www.peowashington.org).
