Arthur Henry (Art) Buchanan peacefully passed away at the age of 90 on Tuesday, Feb. 18

Arthur Henry (Art) Buchanan peacefully passed away at the age of 90 on Tuesday, Feb. 18, at Willapa Harbor Care Center in Raymond, Washington. Art was born at the family home in Raymond, Washington. His parents were Roy Buchanan and Edith (Berry) Buchanan.

Art graduated from Raymond High in 1948, and worked for the railroad before serving in the U.S. Army. After boot camp at Camp Roberts, California, he was stationed in Okinawa during the Korean War. He left the service in the early 1950s as a staff sergeant.

He began his career working at the Raymond Weyerhaeuser sawmill, where he worked for 42 years. He witnessed many changes as the sawmill moved from lumber made from old growth timber to the current high-speed, small-log lumber mill.

Art was a lifetime member of the Raymond Eagles. He was a coach of girls softball for more than 20 years and he and his wife spent considerable time and energy in making this successful and enjoyable for all the team members.

He spent most of his vacations with his family camping at the state parks in Washington and on the Oregon coast. He had a great passion for golf and enjoyed going to the Husky football games.

Art is survived by his wife, Beverly, sons Gary and Daryle (Linda) Buchanan in South Bend, and several nephews and nieces. Art was preceded in death by a son, Larry, sister Betty and brothers Bob, Jack and Curt.
