Arthur Francis Turgeon, age 82, a resident of Ocean Shores, died on Jan. 24, 2022, at his home. Art was born on Feb. 20, 1939, in Pierre, South Dakota to Joseph George and Ella Marie (Willoughby) Turgeon. Art was an enrolled member of the Rosebud Sioux.

When he was five years old, the family moved to Southern California. He was raised in the Carson area and graduated from Banning High School in 1957. He ran cross country for the school track team and worked as a camp counselor for the YMCA.

At age 19, he enlisted in the United States Air Force and was stationed in England. From there he traveled all over Europe and Africa as a military photographer.

He returned to Southern California where he graduated from the apprentice program as an electrician at the Long Beach Naval Shipyard. He later transferred to Puget Sound Naval Shipyard in Bremerton where he worked as a planner/estimator until retiring in 1994. Art built the family home in Silverdale where he and his wife Marian lived for over 30 years. Art was a volunteer fireman for 20 years and a youth soccer coach.

In 2005, the couple retired to Ocean Shores where Art had built their retirement home. He enjoyed Ocean Shores for many reasons, including the ability to play golf year-round. He was a member of the Men’s Club at the golf course, the Elks, and regularly participated in exercise groups at the Community Club.

Surviving relatives include his wife, Marian A. Turgeon of the family home in Ocean Shores; a daughter and her spouse, Elizabeth Turgeon and Holly Hein of Portland; a son and his spouse, Benjamin and Jessica Turgeon of Arlington; one grandchild, Jacob Paz of Eureka, California; and three siblings: Robert Turgeon of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; Sharon Tedsen of Torrance, California and Linda Turgeon of Silverdale, Washington. Two brothers preceded him in death, William and Thomas.

Family and friends are scattered across many states, so in lieu of a service, Marian requests you add a remembrance (site listed below) to be shared with all those Art cared about.
