Ann Marchbank passed away Sept. 24, 2016 with both daughters at her side.

Ann Marchbank passed away Sept. 24, 2016, with both daughters at her side. Born Sept. 6, 1939, in Walla Walla, Wash., the daughter of Etheline and Ralph Zimmeran attended Washington High and received her B.A. in Education from Eastern Washington College. Ann spent most of her teaching career in the Highline District teaching English and coaching gymnastics at Sunset and Sylvester Jr. Highs and Tyee High School. After completing her administrative credentials at Western, she became principal of North Beach Jr. Sr. High in 1993.

Ann was not new to Ocean Shores, however, as she and Ed had spent their one night honeymoon at the Ocean Shores Inn in 1966. They returned eleven years later with their daughters, bought a lot, and had a cabin built near the beach. They had recently purchased a home on Duck Lake only several months before hearing of the North Beach position. Ann retired after three years to help care for her parents whom she had moved to Ocean Shores from Vancouver, Wash. but was soon back filling in for several more years. After finally breaking ties with school, Ann, never one to remain idle, enjoyed hostessing at Jimmy D’s restaurant (reminiscent of her high school job at Newberry’s lunch counter in Walla Walla), part-timing at the deli, and helping people select fabric and color at the quilt shop.

Ann is survived by Ed with whom she recently celebrated their 50th anniversary with daughters and husbands in Hawaii. She was proud of her daughters, Melanie Ellis (Richard) of Honolulu, Hawaii, a department store manager, and Mandy Ravet (Jeff) of Ellensburg, Wash., a reading specialist for Kittitas Schools. There are four grandsons: Jake, Joey, Reilly, and Reece. A brother Ralph Zimmerman resides in Dayton, Wash.

Ann loved living in Ocean Shores and was active in Sea Pal Quilters and an avid poker player at Quinault Casino where she had many friends and employees who were kind during her illness. Thanks also to the caring staff at Harbor Hospice and Aberdeen’s Providence Cancer Center, the services of the Ocean Shores Fire Department, and the generosity of North Beach Medical Equipment. Donations in Ann’s name can be made to North Beach Paws, P.O. Box 962, Ocean Shores, WA 98569, or the Kiwanis Scholarship Fund.

Coleman Mortuary arranged cremation.

A celebration of life will be held Saturday, Oct. 29, from 1 to 4 p.m. in the Pacific Room of the Ocean Shores Shilo Inn.
