Andrew P. “Andy” Missel

Andrew P. “Andy” Missel, 90, a lifetime resident of Aberdeen, died peacefully at Grays Harbor Community Hospital, Thursday, Aug. 3, 2017,with his daughters and son-in-law at his side.

Andy was born in Aberdeen, Oct. 13, 1926, the son of John and Stella (Walczyk) Missel.

Andy graduated from Weatherwax High School in 1944 and just as a lot of young men of that time entered the service, joining the US Navy. He was stationed in the Philippines and discharged in 1946, returning to the Harbor.

Andy had a lifelong career as a cement finisher. He worked locally for Franciscovich Construction and Andy Johnson Construction, sometimes traveling to Tacoma, Olympia and Shelton.

He retired in 1989. He belongs to the Cement Masons &Laborers Union of Seattle.

On Sept. 14, 1951, he married Arlene V. Haglund in Aberdeen. They had been happily married for 65 years, rarely spending a day apart, when she passed away on March 19, 2017.

Andy was a truly devoted husband, father and grandfather. He loved nothing more than spending time with his family. Andy loved being a grandfather to his only grandchild, Brian. His favorite pastime was attending Brian’s sporting events, never missing one. He was very proud of him and his many accomplishments.

Andy loved keeping his yard immaculate and was his son-in-law’s favorite handyman. He could fix anything. Andy, like his wife, had a great love of animals, spoiling their precious cats.

Andy is survived by two daughters: Sharon and husband Mark Ford, Aberdeen, and Sandra Pickens, Lynnwood, Wash; a sister: Mary Ann and husband Karl Johnson, Aberdeen; and also one grandson, Brian (Serena) Ford, Houston, Texas; and a great-grandson, Max Junyu Ford. He was preceded in death by two sisters: Francine Cunningham and Anne Sliva; and five brothers: Leo, Joe, Mike, John and Ed. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. We know he will be happy to now be by his wife’s side.

Per his request, there will be no service.

The family suggests that donations be made to PAWS, P.O. Box 451, Aberdeen WA 98520.

A card of condolence with a message or a memory may be sent to the family at www.fernhillfuneral.com.
