Alice White Boerner died peacefully in her home on Feb. 9, 2019, in Cosmopolis, Washington. She was born in Griffin, Georgia to Troy Hammond White and Mary Alice (Nelson) White on Nov. 25, 1947.

Alice attended Griffin High School. She then continued her education by attending University of West Georgia, Saint Martin’s College and University of Portland, ultimately achieving her Master’s Degree in Education. During and after her college career she worked for Mayr Bros. Logging Company and Timberland Bank as a computer user specialist, which gave rise to an opportunity to pursue a lifelong desire to share her knowledge with others as an elementary school teacher. Alice became a fourth generation teacher within her family by teaching technology classes, to the third and fourth grades for Central Elementary School in Hoquiam, Washington. She loved engaging her students in the sciences at a young and curious age and encouraged them to do their best every day.

She truly loved and lived her life to the fullest through simple pleasures, one being a wife and second being a mother. She married the love of her life, Stephen Darrell Boerner in July of 1979, in Montesano, Washington.

Alice gave back to her community in many ways, she volunteered for the Hoquiam Planning Commission, handed out reading books to the youth at the Hoquiam Logger’s Playday Parade, supported the Hoquiam teachers as a strike negotiator and wrote funding grants for the Artic Community Center where she regularly attended a quilt group. She had many great adventures and enjoyed traveling the world. She had gone to England, France, Italy, Germany and Ireland to name a few. But most of all, what made her life so fulfilling in her own eyes, was her loving family.

Alice Boerner is survived by her husband, Stephen Boerner of the Cosmopolis family home; her four children, Jodi Carroll of Salem, Oregon, Angela Simpson of Hoquiam, Paula Boerner of Hoquiam and Mike Boerner of Lacey, Washington. She is also survived by eight grandchildren, Gregory, Jared, Donavan, Ashley. Kenneth, Jacob, Kyliee Joann, Georgia Alice, two great-grandchildren, Sophia and Anayah and other relatives.

She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. Her family was the apple of her eye.

Cherished friends and loving family, please come and help celebrate her life, on Sunday, Feb. 24, 2019, at 2 p.m. at the Hoquiam Elks Lodge, 624 K Street, Hoquiam, WA 98550 where Cliff Thieme will be the presiding speaker.
