As part of efforts to protect yourself and prevent its spread, you’ve been told to use disinfectants the EPA has approved for use against SARS-CoV-2, the novel coronavirus that causes COVID-19.

What are they?

The EPA released that list on Thursday, March 5, as part of efforts to help reduce the spread of COVID-19.

Clorox disinfecting wipes, Lysol brand heavy-duty disinfectant, Purell disinfectant wipes and several brands of toilet bowl cleaners are on the list.

Follow directions when using disinfectants

Federal officials said to follow directions on the label, including how long the disinfectant should stay on the surface you’re putting it on.

The sanitizers were previously approved under a program that allows manufacturers to provide the EPA with data that shows their products are effective against SARS-CoV-2 and viruses that are harder to kill, the federal agency said Thursday in a news release.
